The Oliphant Family Foundation, a registered non-profit organization headquartered in Johannesburg, has announced a strategic partnership with Phehellang Secondary School in Tumahole, Parys, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities and learner development in the region.
Founded in August 2024, and chaired by Neo Oliphant, the Oliphant Family Foundation is committed to uplifting communities through targeted investments in education, youth development, and social empowerment. Under the stewardship of its Board of Trustees, Lebo Motsohi and Dr. Mpho Ramoliki, the Foundation has rapidly positioned itself as a catalyst for change in underserved areas.
On 11 October 2025, over 200 matriculants, educators, and members of the School Governing Body gathered at Phehellang Secondary School to witness the unveiling of the Foundation and its strategic vision. The event highlighted the Foundation’s mission to use education as a transformative tool for social progress. The partnership will introduce a comprehensive support program including:
-
A Tertiary Bursary Scheme for learners with outstanding academic achievements;
-
Internship Opportunities to bridge the gap between school and the workplace;
-
Mentorship Programs to guide learners in personal and professional development.
Speaking at the event, Mr. John Oliphant, an alumnus of Phehellang Secondary School and principal funder of the Foundation, emphasized the importance of education in building resilient communities - “Education is the cornerstone of transformation in our communities and by investing in the future of South Africa, one learner at a time, we are laying the foundation for sustainable change.”
Mrs. Dimakatso Maloyi-Mofokeng, Principal of Phehellang Secondary School, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the initiative, encouraging the learners to continue to challenge themselves to a higher standard - “This partnership is a blessing to our school and our community. The Oliphant Family Foundation’s support will help us nurture learners who are not only academically strong but also socially conscious and future ready.”
The school’s leadership echoed the sentiment, noting that the collaboration aligns with their mission to provide meaningful, context-sensitive education that prepares learners for both local and global challenges. This initiative marks the beginning of a long-term relationship between the Foundation and the school, with plans to expand the program to other schools within the Free State province in the coming years.
